This August Bank Holiday, Canary Wharf has plenty happening, from Summer Screens, gaming sessions and free activities, to dining at some of London’s hottest restaurants.

Start the Weekend Early

Kick off with some well-deserved Friday drinks. For late afternoon sun, head to No35 Mackenzie Walk where the south-facing terrace sits right on the dock edge. An easy spot for a cold drink as the weekend rolls in.

Overlooking Canada Square Park, Oasis Bar & Terrace has an 18-metre bar, plenty of outdoor seating and a relaxed atmosphere made for drinks that stretch into the evening.

Game On

Challenge your friends at Canary Wharf’s colourful nine-hole minigolf course, created by artists Craig Redman and Karl Maier. It’s open daily in Montgomery Square from 12pm to 6pm and completely free, with clubs and balls provided.

You’ll also find ping pong tables at Montgomery Square, Union Square and Wren Landing. Bring your own equipment or pick some up from the nearby stewards between 12pm and 6pm.

On Saturday, Mario Kart World takes over the gaming screen from 1pm to 4pm, with up to four people racing at a time. On Sunday, swap racing for Just Dance, following the on-screen dancers and competing with up to four players. Only confidence required.

Stories On Demand

Not every Bank Holiday activity needs to be an event. Dotted around Canary Wharf are Short Story Stations dispensing free stories and poems at the touch of a button.

You’ll find them at Crossrail Place Roof Garden, Cabot Place and Jubilee Place, with everything from classics by Virginia Woolf and Lewis Carroll to contemporary writing from around the world. Choose one, three or five-minute reads and the station will print a free story or poem at random for you to enjoy.

Brunch Without the Rush

Bank Holiday Sunday is made for brunch and Pergola on the Wharf is making a full afternoon of it.

On Sunday, its Bottomless Brunch includes three courses and 90 minutes of free-flowing drinks, with DJs playing throughout the afternoon. Brunch runs from 12pm until 5pm.

And because there’s no Monday morning commute to think about, you don’t have to call it a day there. From 5pm, brunch gives way to Pergola’s Sunday Night Party, with music, cocktails and dancing carrying on into the evening.

The Show Goes On

Bank Holiday Monday brings something a little different to Canada Square Park. At 2pm, Summer Screens will show the National Theatre production of The Playboy of the Western World, starring Nicola Coughlan alongside Éanna Hardwicke and Siobhán McSweeney.

The screening is free and non-ticketed, making it an easy addition to a slower Bank Holiday Monday.

Find a spot in the park, settle in and enjoy the extra afternoon off.
